On October 14th 1996, peptide scientists from Hellenic Universities and Research Institutes gathered at the University of Patras to participate in the 1st Hellenic Forum on Bioactive Peptides. The purpose of this assembly was to promote already established research collaboration with other well-known groups working on related disciplines, and at the same time to make known further the human endeavor in research by Hellenic scientists collaborating with fellow reseachers from abroad in the field of peptides, which in Hellas has been considerably developed since the time of Professor Leonidas Zervas. The gathering was dedicated to Professor Dimitrios Theodoropoulos on his seventieth birthday. The present commemorative volume contains the proceedings of the opening and scientific session of the Forum, as well as contributions of former students, co-workers and friends of Dimitrios Theodoropoulos, describing some of their work or reviewing the advancements in specific areas of peptide research.
